West Creek Academy PTA is thrilled to participate in the National PTA Reflections Arts Program.

PTA Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity in the classroom and at home. Students of all grades and abilities may participate and explore the arts based on the 2016-2017 theme: What Is Your Story?

Create an Original Work

Only new and original works inspired by the theme: What Is Your Story? will be accepted. Enter in 1 or more of the following arts categories.

  • Dance Choreography
  • Film Production
  • Literature
  • Music Composition
  • Photography
  • Visual Arts

View the national rules for the program here.

Submit Your Entry

Entries are due in the West Creek Academy Multi-Purpose room on October 10th between 8:30am and 10am. Your submission must include a completed and signed Student Entry Form.

In your artist statement, tell us about your work and what it means to you.

  • How does your work relate to the theme?
  • What is your personal connection to the theme?
  • What did you use to create your work (e.g. supplies, technology, instrumentation, props, etc.)?
  • What/Who was your inspiration?
Judging Criteria

Volunteer arts and education experts review submissions without knowledge of the entrants’ identity. Judges look for personal interpretations on the program theme that best exemplify creativity and technical skill.

  • Interpretation: How closely the piece relates to the theme, based on the artwork itself and the artist statement.
  • Creativity: How creative and original the piece is in its conception of the theme and its presentation.
  • Technique: The level of skill demonstrated in the basic principles/techniques of the arts area.

  • Learn more about Reflections
The Reflections Arts Program is a national arts recognition program sponsored by PTA. Students are given a theme and may choose to enter in one of the arts categories. Current categories include Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts. All students who submit an entry are recognized at a West Creek Academy Reflections Gala. Winners in each of the categories will have their entries moved on to the SCV Council PTA competition. Winners from the Council level will move ahead to the 34th District PTA competition followed by the California State PTA level and ultimately the National PTA level. All students are encouraged to share their creativity and talent and participate in this worthwhile program.

This year's Red Ribbon Week theme is:
YOLO. Be Drug Free.

Statistics show that children whose parents talk to their teens regularly about drug use are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t. Yet, only a quarter of teens report having these conversations. This is a great opportunity for families to start such dialogue. When our kids come home with a bookmark or a bracelet, when they are dressed in red, or when they see the school decorated with red ribbons, you can start these conversations at a level appropriate to your child.

Help wanted!

Please join the Red Ribbon Committee on September 8 at 8:30 AM in the PTA room to help with the planning of this year's events. Red Ribbon Week is a national alcohol, tobacco, and drug prevention awareness campaign observed annually (October 24-28 this year).

Don't worry if you can't make the meeting, volunteer opportunities for Red Ribbon events will be posted soon! Questions? Contact Esther via the website contact form (be sure to select "Red Ribbon Week" from the pull-down).

  • Learn more about Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention awareness campaign that is held each October. Students participate in educational activities as well as join a pledge to stay drug-free. Students and staff also join together to show their commitment to staying drug-free by wearing the color red on a specified day.
